Events

The two events that we offer most frequently are a four day Introductory SRV Workshop and a five day Introductory PASSING Workshop. The four day Introductory SRV workshop provides, in lecture format,  a comprehensive overview of SRV theory, including its ten themes. Those who complete this workshop may then attend a five day PASSING workshop, which is essentially the practicum for the SRV theory workshop.  In a PASSING workshop, small teams of participants visit and analyze two services for devalued people, using a tool based on SRV theory, a complex process which invariably requires long hours. While both these events are challenging and rigorous, participants who are up to the challenge, find them very enlightening and intellectually satisfying.

The SOTG also works in collaboration with other like-minded organizations to offer and support a series of intensive workshops, first developed by Dr. Wolf Wolfensberger, that engage participants in an exploration of  some fundamental issues related to the dysfunctionality within contemporary society. While these issues are not specific to SRV theory, those who seek to deepen their understanding of SRV often find these very intensive workshops to be extremely worthwhile.

Other recent events include the following: For those with little or no previous exposure to SRV theory, the SOTG, from time to time, offers short events that introduce some of the core concepts of SRV. As well, there are occasional workshops that look at specific program areas (e.g. employment, inclusive post secondary education, etc.) that reflect an SRV perspective, and short study group sessions that provide opportunities for people with some knowledge of SRV to engage in guided discussion around a topic of interest.
